Session 16: Paralysis of a Ghoulish Nature

After a night of carousing in the local tavern everyone was in good spirits and good cheer.  The locals were listening to the stories told by the group and seemed to be enthralled by the news of what evil lies in the dungeon only a half days travel from their very homes.  Bill decided he had better head to the doctor and get checked out after spending a little too much time with the farmer's daughter.  (Thanks for letting me experiment with that table, if we have more time I can concoct more intricate stories)

After much time spent gathering supplies and new armor for the hires we are off to see what loot can be plundered from the depths.  The group makes it to the stairs unhindered/unmolested.  The team sees a group of wild? horses move into the disappearing forest on their way to the cave entrance.



They make their way down the stairs and decide to have a look at an unexplored section of the dungeon they haven't seen yet.  They make their way passed the well in the caverns and down to the double stone doors.  The doors being locked were forced open. (Half Orc is strong!) Its was incredibly loud!  No wandering bands of monsters came.  Either because they didn't hear or because they know to stay away from that area.

Inside the room is a 10' wide hallway with many doors on either side.  The team thinks they are likely more crypts.  Te first door is opened and inside are 3 nasty ghouls.  They are making their way to toward the group and are dispatched.  50GP was found in the room all over the floor.  The next room are 7 skeletons smashed in and ready to burst out. They get wrecked pretty quickly, this group is used to the dead by now. Lets just hope they dont get so used to it they become one of them. IN the room of many skeletons they find a small coin purse with what felt like one coin in it.  They opened the bag and pulled out the coin and were suddenly enveloped in complete darkness. (Normal eyesight, including infravision, cannot penetrate this darkness, nor can lamps, torches, or the spell light.) They placed the coin back in the bag and closed it tight.

The next two crypts were a little more deadly.  Upon opening the room a Ghoul lurched out and attacked the cat, the cat was suddenly paralyzed.  Then another reached for the half orc.  It's claw found an opening in his armor and while he took very little damage, he was paralyzed as well. As the Half Orc and the cat slump together on the ice cold flagstones, helpless, the others destroy the ghouls.

After that uncomfortable scene everyone piles into one of the cleared out crypts and close the door.  It takes almost an hour before the Half Orc and the cat are able to move again.  They gather their wits and start checking out the other rooms.  The next one had a huge mess of zombie looking things in it.  The Half Orc tosses in an lit oil flask and burns a few, the cleric turns a few and they attack the rest.  Bill squirts a few with his oil/water skin.   The smoke in the room is getting overwhelming and they need to do something fast.  They try to toss in another oil cocktail and it slips from the Half Orcs hand and lights his pants on fire! (Rolled a 1 on a missile attack) It goes out quickly and they quickly get the door shut.

They decide to skip the last 4 rooms and go for the door at the end of the hallway.  As soon as they get to the end of the hall both crypt doors burst open and some Ghouls and Zombies come out and attack!  The wizard casts his handy dandy new web spell and entangles the ghouls while the others are either turned or destroyed.  The ghouls in the web are burning from the attack on them with the flaming undead sword.

After all that the group picked up 50GP, A beautiful ruby/gold ring, a silver sword and a coin that envelops everything in darkness.  They are about to turn around and leave but the others want to see whats in the big door to the south.  The door opens and inside is a gruesome shrine made of bones.  On the far wall above the shrine is a grinning Stone skull.  To the east of the room is a small statue of a beautiful elven maiden.

a silver sword
a coin that envelops everything in darkness (Even infravision)

8 Ghouls: 200 XP
8 Skeletons: 80 XP
10 Zombies: 200 XP
