Finally the fight with the madmax idiots concludes and the heavily laden adventurers, tomb robbers, treasure seekers, head to the surface. They get to the canyon and a few humans brigand types come from the hidden forest to speak to them. They tell them of the hobgoblins that captured their leader and took over their hideout. Most of the rest of their crew has dispersed and found other things to do. The town will not welcome them due to some of the unsavory things they are known for.
After moving back to town you go and find out the old man who used to sell potions and stuff has moved on. Fizban, the new guy in town, wears a worn reddish colored hooded robe, pushes a cart of antiques. Has a small shop he works out of. Seems to show up without warning looking befuddled and talks a bit as if he forgot what was going on, head in the clouds, possibly working on something in his head. He mentioned that the daggers are some items that belonged to a descendant of his that used to be a wizard of some stature and worked in a lab deep in the dungeon somewhere. He wants to find the daggers which, when put together, should help him discover the labs location and he can find out what eventually happened to it and the labs staff. He is not ready to accompany you into the dungeon but could be of use in the future.
After discovering you have a potion of giant strength, a +1 battle Axe, +1 chainmail and a +1 Shield you take your rest and make your way back to the dungeon. On your way in you didn't see the brigands again and just enter as usual. Bill wonders as we enter the dungeon, could there be more entrances? Perhaps a question for another day.
You make it inside and find your way back to the stairs in level 2. The "family" is still in the room cooking and being crazy. You make it up to the room where you defeated Rythik and that's where we stopped.
Things to do before next session:
1.) Bill needs to check the manual and find out what kind of an animal a druid can befriend as a level 5 druid.
2.) The proposal for the rebuilding of the Silver Eel needs to be put together by Tagar, who is managing construction.
Fights:
6 mad max idiots defeated
Magic Stuff Identified:
+1 Battle Axe
+1 Shield
+1 Chainmmail
Potion Giant Strength
Key (Not magic)
Other:
Lots of gold, treasure, gems brought back: 1975 GP worth.
Brown dagger brought to Fizban: 1000 GP paid
Level:
Tagar levels to 3rd level
Boomy levels to 4th level
Druid levels to 5th level
The others should level up soon, depending on how much stuff you find and how much you spend on the reconstructions of the inn.
Druid Spell for befriending animals:
Animal Companion: The spell for this allows for "2 HD per caster level" The druid is a caster level 4 which means an HD 8 animal. (I don't know where you will find such an animal)
The caster can have a number of HD of animals befriended with this spell equal to up to twice their level. For something like this you will need to propose what animal you want to befriend. That animal has to be within a reasonable distance from the town/dungeon or even in the dungeon. For example you will not find a sabre tooth tiger or a polar bear roaming around the area. If you find a pack of HD 8 animals you could have a hard time, maybe successfully charming one while the others try to eat you.
If you find an animal you may want to have the party with you. If the animal makes its saving throw and it's way stronger then you then you risk it tearing you apart, if you have the party with you its possible you can kick its ass if it makes it's save.
So, there is only danger if the animal makes the saving throw. If it fails then it wont attack for the duration of the spell.
▶If the save succeeds: The animal is not affected by the magic and behaves normally.
▶If the save fails: The animal waits quietly while the caster performs a binding ritual lasting 6 turns
Propose a reasonable animal that you think could/should be in a wooded and mountainous area. Maybe something you would find in the fantastical version of the Appalachian mountains? We can then do a side quest to the "den" or "lair" of the beast and see if you are successful.
